In the final Mid Willamette Conference match of the season West Albany shot 322 to finish second at OGA Golf Course in Woodburn.
The Bulldogs trailed Corvallis by a point in the season standings entering the day, but the finish propelled West into a tie with the Spartans and guaranteed it a spot in the regional tournament and a chance to qualify for State.
Andrew Liles and Brock Nelson led the Dogs with 77 and 78, respectively. Grant Moen’s 82 along with Trenton Crow’s 85 secured the runner-up placement.
“The boys are playing great golf right now,” Bulldog coach Matt Boase said.
“They work hard and prepare for every tournament in the right way. It’s rewarding as a coach to have a group of boys who make the extra effort and get better as a result.”
The regional tournament will be Monday and Tuesday at Trysting Tree Golf Course. If the Bulldogs can finish in the top-two of the six teams competing they will join Crescent Valley at the state tournament the following week.
“We’ve taken a week-by-week approach this year, and the boys earned their way to regionals,” Boase said.
“We won’t change anything now, and hopefully two days of our best golf will be enough to get us to state.”
