West Albany High School 3rd 326

West Albany posted a solid 326 at the first day of the state tournament at Trysting Tree Golf Course to get into third place behind Crescent Valley and Corvallis.
Crescent Valley leads the tournament with a first-day 307 while Corvallis is one stroke ahead of West with a 325.
“I can’t say enough about how these guys are playing to end this season.” coach Matt Boase said.
“It’s such a young group and they are playing so well under pressure. To make a comeback at regionals just to get to state, and then to be one shot out of second place after the first day is some impressive grit.”
West was led by freshman Brock Nelson’s 75. Sophomores Trenton Crow (81), Andrew Liles (85), and Grant Moen (85) rounded out the scoring for West. Senior Jonah Willard posted a 92.
“Our goal going in was to walk away with a trophy, and they got the job done to have a chance at that tomorrow,” Boase said.
“Brock really stepped up to get us where we need to be. Shooting 75 at the state tournament is good stuff. Trenton’s 81 was really impressive as well. I can’t say enough about all of these boys. I’m really proud of them no matter how tomorrow turns out.”
